Instructions for your ezWalker break-in process

You must use a break-in process while your body is adjusting to the support your WalkEZstore Performance Custom Orthotic is designed to provide. The orthotic will be supporting you in a way your shoes alone have not been able to do. Therefore, the break-in process is crucial. Your WalkEZstore Performance Custom Orthotic has been made especially for your feet.  If you have never worn a custom arch support in your shoes prior to purchasing your orthotics, the break-in process is essential for avoiding discomfort while your body is adjusting to this new level of support. If you are a current orthotic wearer, your break-in process is still important due to the unique bio-mechanical casting method that has been used in the fabrication of your orthotics, your break-in process should be easier and take a shorter period of time. Remember, you are not breaking in the orthotics; you are breaking your body into the use of them. Muscle soreness may occur as we “wake up” the functionality of your feet.

Place your orthotics in your shoes, making sure that it remains in the rear of the shoe as you slip the shoe on your foot.  If you have shoes with removable insoles, you may want to try putting your orthotics under the insole for added comfort. If your shoes do not have removable insoles, simply place them in the shoes and proceed to place the shoes on your feet. The orthotics should stay in place with the pressure of your foot in the shoe. In the case of a clog or a sandal, you may wish to temporarily secure your orthotics in your shoes. You may do so with a dab of rubber cement under the heel, or a small piece of Velcro works well, too. You can purchase small Velcro dots with adhesive already on them for easy application anywhere Velcro is sold. The WalkEZstore.com can also make custom orthotics for sandals that are virtually invisible; extra charges do apply. Sandals with removable insoles are required.

Wear your custom orthotics for a short period of time on the first day. Extended wear may cause undue discomfort.  Increase your wear time bit by bit each day until you are wearing your orthotics comfortably all day. If at any time during the break-in period you experience discomfort, decrease your time a bit for that day. The break-in period usually takes 2 to 6 weeks. If you are not comfortably wearing your orthotics all day by the end of 6 weeks, or they create extreme pain after several days of trying to get used to them, please contact us. Minor adjustments to your orthotics may be made and are necessary for a more comfortable fit. Break-In Instructions for Your WalkEZstore Performance Custom Orthotics

Your WalkEZstore Performance Custom Orthotics are designed to provide a level of support that your shoes alone cannot. Because of this, it is essential to follow a proper break-in process to allow your body time to adjust. Each pair is custom-made specifically for your feet to help improve your biomechanics. Whether you are new to orthotics or an experienced wearer, this adjustment period is important due to the unique biomechanical casting method used in their design.

Important: You are not breaking in the orthotics—you are breaking your body into the use of them. Mild muscle soreness in the feet and even up the legs may occur as your body begins to function more efficiently. This is normal and temporary.

To begin, place the orthotics firmly into the back (heel area) of your shoes before putting them on. If your shoes have removable insoles without added arch support, you may place the orthotics underneath them for added comfort. If the insole does have built-in arch support, it may need to be modified so it works properly with your custom orthotics. If the insoles are not removable, place the orthotics directly into the shoe, ensuring they stay properly positioned as you put the shoe on. Some people prefer the orthotic directly against their foot, while others like an insole placed over it for additional cushioning. The orthotics should remain in place with the natural pressure of your foot; however, if needed, you can secure them using a small amount of rubber cement or adhesive Velcro dots under the heel. Velcro dots are widely available and easy to apply. Start the break-in process by wearing your orthotics for a short period on the first day—essentially until your feet tell you “enough.” Each day after that, gradually increase your wear time as comfort allows. Avoid wearing them all day right away, as this may lead to unnecessary discomfort. If you experience discomfort at any point during the break-in period, simply reduce your wear time for that day and continue progressing more gradually. Most patients adjust to their orthotics within 2 to 6 weeks. By the end of this period, you should be able to wear them comfortably throughout the day.
